Hello,

We did it. The Turlock Tonados United U-18-Boys are the State Cup Champions and will represent the CYSA North at the Region IV Championship games in Honolulu Hawaii on May 16-22,2008. We are very proud of our boys. Our boys were focused and poised. Captain Jesse Trellez Horta scored the first goal in the first 8 minutes of the game. Diablo Valley Black Pearl 89 came back and scored a goal in the 13th minute of the first half and scored another goal in the 24th minute of the first half of the game. DVBP89 was not going to score again. Attackers score goals...Defense wins championships. The second goal was scored by Pablo Lopez with his lobb pass skillfully touched over the DVBP goalie and into the back of the net. Nate Thompson scored the third goal in the 22nd minute of the second half for Turlock with a follow shot to goal by teammate Martin Arista for the lead. Captain Lalo Ramirez along with Beau Villanueva, and Antonio Arroyo did an outstanding job on defense. Art Pulido, Roman Duran,Havi Partida, Chamon Barajas, Mike Gonzales, Mario Anaya, Cesar Solis, and Kiko Gutierrez won the battles and controlled the game in the mid-field .Keeper Eddy Salinas played with "no doubt" and kept the ball from going into the back of the net in the 2nd half of the game. Final score 3 to 2. The DVBP's coach said he has never heard of the Turlock Tornados until last week at the semi-final games. Well...They know of Turlock now. Congratulations are in order for the Turlock Tornados United U-18-Boys Football Club. Way to go Turlock Tornados...a job well done. Aloha... see you boys in Hawaii.

State Cup Tournament 2008

Turlock Tornados U-18-Boys

T.Y.S.A.

We made it through the round of 32 by winning all three games at Cherry Island. Here are the scores. On Saturday 4/12/2008 our first game was against the Clovis Ca Odyssey 90b Red 4-3.The score at half time was 4-0. We pulled out our starters to rest them for the second game...which gave them the opportunity to score the 3 points. However, we got the win. It was an ugly win, but a win just the same.

On the same day...The second game was against the Davis Legacy 90 Gunners. They...as the U-17 team last year made it to the Championship game in the State Cup. They placed 2nd. We knew we had to step up our level of play or go home. The final score 4-0.

Our third game was played on Sunday the 13th against the South San Jose United. They came in very strong and scored on us in the first 5 minutes. It didn't look good ...our boys needed to settle down and play their game. We told them before the game...There's one thing that the Turlock Tornados U-18 Boys are known for is...When they have their backs against the wall...they pull together as a team step up their level of play....and they did. San Jose did not score again. The final score was 3-1. Their was not a round of "Sweet 16" due to 5 teams withdrawing from the tournament. We are moving forward to the Quarter Finals... playing at Morgan Hill in two weeks.

Our State Cup Quarter Final game was on Saturday April 26. It was against the Santa Clara Sporting 89B. A very intense game with no goals scored by both teams in the 1st and 2nd 45 minute halves with a 0-0 score. There are no ties in the State Cup Quarter Finals. The winner of this game would be decided by playing two 15 minute overtime periods with the golden goal rule. Our boys pull it together as a team kept their poise and composer scoring the golden goal in the first 5 minutes of overtime with the final  score being 1-0.

Moving on to the Semi Finals against the De Anza Force 89B Blue. The game was played on Sunday April 27, 2008. We scored 2 points in the first half but the game was far from being over. The momentum changed and went to the De Anza Force 89B Blue. They came back and scored 2 points to tie the game…with 1 minute left in the game we got an opportunity to score on a free kick. Our boys dug deep to get a 3-2 win. The parents, family, and friends that were watching the game were on pins and needles and was very happy for our boys. We have earned the privilege to play in the State Cup Championship becoming State Cup Finalist. It is an honor to represent the T.Y.S.A. in the State Cup Championship game on Sunday May 4, 2008 at Morgan Hill at the OSC North Field at 1:00 p.m.Go Turlock Tornados U-18-B. Wish us luck.

Turlock Tsunami Storms into the State Cup Round of 16

Representing the Turlock Youth Soccer Association, the Turlock Tornados
Tsunami Under 13 Boys Soccer Team is riding the crest of three straight
tournament championships into the 64-team CYSA-North State Cup Tournament.
California Youth Soccer Association-North encompasses nine districts made up
of 48 counties from north of Bakersfield in Kern County, all the way to the
Oregon border. Coaches Jose Ramos and Rafael Vega guided the Tsunami to an
undefeated Fall 2007 League season in the CYSA District VIII Dennis Olson
League Division 1 competition. Success continued into 2008 as the Tsunami
won the Dennis Olson League Tournament, the Bullard Classic Tournament in
Fresno, and the Modesto Ajax United Winter Invitational. The Tsunami also
finished second in the Turlock New Year¹s Derby Tournament.

State Cup competition began with preliminary pool play, January 19 and 20 at
the Turlock Regional Sports Complex. Posting wins over East Diablo Alliance
(4-1), Pleasanton Ballistic United (3-1), and Mt. Hamilton Brazil 94 (3-2),
the Tsunami moves on to the Round of 16 to be held February 9 in Morgan
Hill. Facing single elimination bracketing for the remainder of the
tournament, the Tsunami¹s first goal is to win in Morgan Hill, avenging a
loss in the Round of 16 in 2007, and then return to the Turlock Regional
Sports Complex for the quarter- and semi-finals on February 16 and 17.
Ultimately, Coaches Ramos and Vega and the team have their sights set on
reaching the State Cup Championship game, February 23.

Hailing from the communities of Turlock, Hughson, Ceres, Hilmar, Livingston,
and Winton, the Tsunami fields a group of dedicated, gifted and determined
athletes, many of whom have played together since December 2005. Evidenced
by the fact that 15 of the team¹s 16 members scored goals this season, Coach
Ramos has been able to field a variety of line-ups and rely on the
versatility of many players to play multiple positions. Coach Ramos
emphasizes strong defense coupled with offensive-minded play at every
position. Forwards Kurtis Bettencourt, Hayden Genzoli, Cristian Sanchez,
Ethan Tait, and Tommy Vieira, and Mid-Fielders James Bray, Flavio Castro,
Izzak Mireles, Christian Vega, and Kevin Webb provide a balanced attack at
the offensive end of the field. The formidable back line consists of
Defenders Samuel Herring, Alan Ibarra, Sterling Rose, and Daniel Valenzuela,
whose aim is to minimize shots on goal. Fredy Maldonado-Mendoza, Jesus
Ramos, and Sterling Rose share Goalkeeping duty.

2007 Nomads Thanksgiving Classic

The Turlock Tornados FC U-17 boys, coached by Sergio Sousa, played in the Premier Division of the 2007 Nomads Thanksgiving Classic over Thanksgiving Weekend.  Top teams from Northern and Southern California, along with teams from Washington, Arizona and, an international team from Guatemala were represented.  Turlock faced San Clemente, North Huntington Beach, and a team from Spokane Washington in group play.  Turlock started the tournament by tying San Clemente 0-0, then beating a high ranked Southern California team North Huntington Beach 1-0.  On Saturday morning, Turlock finished group play by defeating Spokane Washington 2-1 in a very physical game, giving Turlock a 2-0-1 record in group play advancing Turlock into the quarter finals.  The quarterfinals were played Saturday night at UC San Diego in front of a large crowd with many college scouts on hand.  Turlock faced the international team from Guatemala, who had not relinquished a goal in group play.  In a well played, extremely exciting atmosphere, Turlock defeated the Guatemala team 3-0.  The team from Guatemala was rated #1 in their country.  It’s not every day a group of 16 year olds get the opportunity to play international teams.  It was a great victory.  On Sunday morning, Turlock faced the reigning Super Y League National Champions, Los Angeles Football Club.  LAFC ended Turlock’s quest for the championship by defeating Turlock 3-1.  The Turlock Tornados FC under 17 boys finished third out of 28 extremely talented teams.  As the manager, I want to congratulate the team for their success, and above all, Turlock’s exceptional sportsmanship displayed during this tournament.  This is a great start to the year, and we look forward to future success.

Congratulation are in order for the TYSA Tornados United U-18-Boys. The Turlock New Years Derby 2007 "Champions" for the U-18-B Bracket. This is a positive start for our team. Playing only four regulation games (as a team so far this year). Trying to find the right dynamics and roles for our boys for the 2007/2008 season. Our boys played smart and hard against the very talented TYSA Tornados U-17-Boys for the Championship game (a very well coached team by Coach Sergio Souza). It was a very exciting game to watch indeed... Which ended in a 0-0 tie and came down to P.K.s. Fortunately we came out on top.

Good luck to all the Tornados Teams in the up coming 2007/2008 season.

TYSA Staff,

Congratulations needs to go out to the U18 Tornados Girls team. This past weekend (Oct. 27th & 28th) in the Lodi Girls Fall Classic they took 1st place in the U19 Girls bracket. The girls tied there first game on Sat. 0 - 0 against Cal Rush Nike 90 White. The Turlock girls played a great game even though they were down 3 players and only played with 11 girls due to school functions. They got a forfiet in their second game due to a team dropping out of the tourn.
Sunday their first game was against Modesto Ajax Elite and they needed 9 points to get into the championship game and they won 3 - 1 with their last goal scored with less then 1 minute to go in the game. The championship game was against MCFC Panthers of Monterey who had not given up a goal in the tourn. The final score was 0 - 0 in 2 ot's. Turlock won on PK's 3 - 0 by making their first 3 goals and Turlock's goaling blocking 2 and 1 missed the net.
The Turlock girls and Coaching staff of Jenni & Robin should be very proud of themselves. They played hard and with alot of class and as a Team. Turlock should be proud of these girls, I know all the parents of the girls are.

The U13 Girls, coached by Les Baptista, Mike Silva and Karen Yonan, took third place in the Tracy Tournament over the weekend.  The consolation game was against the Oakdale Scorpions, and these two teams always put on a great show.  The game was tied at 1-1 when the referee blew the whistle, which meant the game would be decided on by a PK battle.  After five players, the game was still tied and it was goal for goal.  The Tornados prevailed and won the nail-biting battle with Oakdale to capture third place in the tournament.
I also included the one of the team hugging Sierrah also.

Thanks a bunch,
Jenifer

TYSA,

The Turlock Tornados United U-18-Boys soccer club took 1st place in their E Bracket of the 2007 CYSA STATE CUP U-18- Boys division. They earned their way to the next level to the "Sweet 16".
Our first game on Staurday March 24, 2007 was against the San Fancisco Pal Glen. Our boys came back from a 2 point deficit and tied up the game in the second half. Ending the game with a 2-2- tie. Coming back from a 2 point deficit in the State Cup Tournament is quite an acomplishment at this level of play (we told our boys). Our boys played with heart and never gave up. That's Tornado football! The second game on Sunday was against the Mt. Diablo Unity. Our boys made a statement with a 3-0 win. Playing as a team. Keeping their poise and composure. We are looking forward to our next game at Morgan Hill.

Good luck to all the Tornados that advanced to the next level.

Coach: Louie Bettencourt
Asst. Coach: Les Villanueva

Thank You,

The u15 Turlock Tornados made it to the round of 16. The team played 3 great games, dominating their opponents in all the areas of the field.

First game Tornados vs Almaden Fire(4-2) , the Tornados controlled the game but had a couple of defending mistakes that allowed the opponent to get up on them at 1-2. In the second half the boys came back with 3 un answered goals finishing a strong 4-2.

Second game Turlock vs Hanford(3-2). We knew we will have the hardest game here(Handford team, Hanford field, Handford referees). The game plan was to get in and do damage first and keep the pressure up. The Tornados scored 2 goals in the first 10 minutes and the 3rd goal around the 20th minute. We had 2 players taken out by injury in the first half. No PK no fouls called(surprised?). In the second half the home team brought the level of play up and scored early. We made a coaching mistake to unbalance the form of the team and the home team score one more time. We adjusted players back in the field and were able to hold for the win. The Tornados scored 6 goals, only 3 counted(surprised?).

Third game Turlock Tornados vs. Santa Rosa United Blue. We had to win this game to be able to secure our advancement. At half time we were up 1-0 and the Santa Rosa team was very much in the game. Our boys stepped up and pounded the opponent's goal area with lots of crossing and shots. They played with high energy and determination. The result was Tornados 5 Santa Rosa 0.

We are moving on to face last year's champions MSC Chivas JRS Glens in the round of 16. Our boys are prepared to face this opponent determined to win and to continue their journey to the higher stages. Focus, determination and hard work will get us there.

CONGRATULATIONS U15 BOYS !!!!!!!!

Turlock Tsunami Captures Championships in
August 2006 San Ramon Valley Cup
January 2007 Rangers Challenge Cup Soccer Tournament
January 2007 Modesto Ajax United Winter Invitational Tournament

The TYSA U12 Boys soccer team, Turlock Tsunami has won its third tournament of the 2006/2007 season.

Allowing only two goals in four games, The Tsunami rode the wave to victory in the Modesto Ajax United Winter Invitational, held January 13 and 14 at the Stevinson Polo Grounds. After posting a 0-0 tie with Merced, the Tsunami defeated DeAnza Force 94 Black 3-0, Sonoma Soccer Club Celtic 1-0, and Davis Legacy 95, 4-2 in the Championship game. Five players scored the Tsunami's
eight goals in the tournament, including Diego Duran, Kurtis Bettencourt, Kevin Webb, Cristian Sanchez, and Adam Groesbeck.

In the Manteca Rangers Challenge Cup held January 6 and 7, the Tsunami won all four games en route to the championship, allowing only two goals. Game scores were 4-1 over East Diablo Alliance of Brentwood, 4-1 over Mission Soccer Club Destroyers of San Francisco, 2-0 over Tracy Gladiators, and 2-0 over San Ramon Blast in the championship game. With six different players
scoring, the Tsunami mounted a balanced attack to achieve the four tournament victories. Forwards Kurtis Bettencourt, Alex Garcia, Adam Groesbeck, and Hayden Genzoli and Mid-fielders Cristian Sanchez and Flavio Castro all scored goals. Goalkeeper Fredy Mendoza was awarded the tournament ³Golden Gloves² award, and shared time with Jesus Ramos in goal.

The offensive attack for the Tsunami is dynamic with forwards Kurtis Bettencourt, Hayden Genzoli, Kevin Webb, Alex Garcia, Adam Groesbeck, Christian Vega, Eddie Murillo and Fernando Aguilar sharing time. Mid-fielders Cristian Sanchez, Diego Duran, Flavio Castro work hard to keep the ball at the Tsunami offensive end of the field. With a team philosophy that the offensive attack starts with a strong defense, Sweeper Danny Valenzuela anchors a solid defense with Samuel Herring, Alan Ibarra, Izzak Mireles, and Sterling Rose shutting down other teams¹ offenses.

Other tournament finishes this season include 1st place at the San Ramon Valley Cup, 4th place in the Clovis Challenge Cup, 2nd place in the Dennis Olson League Tournament, and 4th place in the Turlock New Year¹s Derby Tournament. Coach Jose Ramos has been working diligently with this team since January 2005. Coach Rafael Vega serves as assistant coach. After a successful 2005-2006 season in Division 3, the team made the move to Division 1 this year, fielding 18 players from Turlock, Hughson, Hilmar, Livingston, Ceres, and Riverbank.

The Tsunami plans to continue its strong play in the opening round of California Youth Soccer Association State Cup tournament to begin January 20-21, with Turlock Regional Sports Complex serving as one of four sites for 58 teams in 15 brackets.

January 12, 07 - GOLDEN GLOVE AWARDED TO TYSA U12 GIRL AT TOURNAMENT!

The U12 girls team, coached by Bryan Bennett, Les Baptista, and Mike Silva, attended the Rangers United Tournament this last weekend.  The U12 girls took second place in the tournament, but the keeper was awarded with the Golden Glove Award.  Sierrah Miller allowed only two goals in the four game round robin, but had several saves.  This award was voted by coaches, assistant coaches, and tournament directors.  The other age group recipients were decided within one or two votes, but Sierrah earned 13 out of 15 votes.  This is a huge accomplishment, not only for Sierrah, but for her team and TYSA club to be recognized with this achievement.

Thanks a bunch for posting this.  You can email me with any questions, or feel free to contact Les.
